How to Put Crampons On

Author: STV Scotland and M Wilkinson

Ice Climbing Crampons and bootsCrampons, I love crampons. In use for around 80 years now they revolutionised climbing in the 1920's and 1930's. These spiky platforms for your boots will allow you to grip on snow and ice at all angles and make climbing routes accessible for even the most novice climber.

Around £100 will get you a great all round pair for anything you should need when starting out. Once you have them though fitting them to your boots and putting them on is another thing.

These spiky life savers can be tricky customers so practice putting them on again and again to make sure you know what your doing. When out on the mountain you may need t put them on freezing condition whilst wearing big down mitts and by the glow of your head torch, so be prepared. Hopefully this helpful video will help you get started.
